ABOUT Volunteers
Our volunteers offer support as if they were caring for their own family members with such things as meals, personal care, household cleaning and addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents. Medical needs are met by the professional medical community. These homes are established to uphold the value and dignity of the gift of long life as bestowed by God. Our desire is to support and share in all that life brings for these older adults as they fulfill the purposes God intends for this vital stage of life. Emmanuel House is a collaborative effort of the Servants of God’s Love Ministries, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lansing Michigan, and Hope Medical Clinic of Ypsilanti Michigan.

What happens after I submit my application?
You will be invited to an information interview at Emmanuel House.
First Orientation (approx. 1 hour): In this session you will learn how the home started, our philosophy, how we operate, how we age and communicate with one another. The session will provide you will the information you need to decide if Emmanuel House is the right volunteer service for you. There is no obligation to attending the orientation.
Second Orientation (approx. 1 hour): In this session you will learn about the current residents, tour the house and see the practical details of serving. At the end of this session you will sign up for training shifts. The first and second Orientation sessions are frequently done back to back.
Training Sessions: You will sign up for three shifts with experienced caregivers.
If you feel you are comfortable you can begin signing up for your own shifts, or you can continue serving with another caregiver until you do.
